Kings County Distillery

Kings County Distillery was founded in 2009 by Colin Spoelman and David Haskell in a 330-square-foot Brooklyn warehouse, making it New York City's first whiskey distillery since Prohibition and today its oldest still operating. In 2012 it moved into the Paymaster Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, installing copper pot stills imported from Scotland, and in 2016 opened the Gatehouses tasting room at the Navy Yard's historic Sands Street gate. The American Distilling Institute named it Distillery of the Year in 2016, and in 2026 it sold its one-millionth bottle.

The house style borrows from Scotland: a high-malt mashbill of 80% organic New York corn and 20% English malted barley with no wheat or rye, open fermentation, double distillation on pot stills with narrow cuts, and aging in new charred oak. The distillery is a founder of the Empire Rye movement, which requires at least 75% New York-grown rye.

The range runs from Moonshine and the flavored Spiced, Grapefruit Jalapeño and Coffee whiskeys through Blended Bourbon, Straight Bourbon, Peated Bourbon and Straight Empire Rye, up to annual Barrel Strength releases and 200ml gift sets.
