{"title":"Rowen Wine Company","description":"\u003cp\u003eRowen Wine Company was unveiled in 2018 by Tom Klein, proprietor of family-owned Rodney Strong Wine Estates, as a mountain project centered on Cooley Ranch, a remote historic property above Lake Sonoma in the far northern reaches of Sonoma County. Roughly 200 acres of vines are farmed sustainably on red metamorphic greenstone soils above the fog line, and winemaker Justin Seidenfeld makes the wines in a dedicated cellar called The Boneyard.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Rowen 2040 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-varietal Cabernet from the Sky High block, the highest point of the ranch at 2,040 feet above sea level, where steep slopes, full sun exposure and rocky soils yield tiny, intensely concentrated berries. It is fermented in custom 600-liter barrels and aged around 24 months in new French oak before bottling at about 14.5% ABV. The result is a dense, structured mountain Cabernet with black and blue fruit, graphite, dark chocolate and savory herb over firm, polished tannins. The SOMM Journal awarded the 2018 vintage 99 points, and VinePair gave the 2019 93 points.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRowen 2040 is Sonoma's answer to Napa mountain Cabernet, and the scores back it up.
