The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery's flagship blend, assembled from mountain, hillside and valley-floor vineyards across several sub-appellations, including Oakville, Rutherford, Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak sites. Lots are typically fermented half in new French oak barriques and half in stainless steel, then aged about 18 months in French oak with roughly a third new barrels, a regime that keeps the fruit forward and the oak in support. Expect a deep ruby wine with dark cherry, plum, cassis and violet aromatics, a polished medium-to-full body, fine chalky tannin and notes of leather, anise and dusty earth on the finish. Recent vintages have scored 92 to 95 points from James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator. Pair with grilled lamb or a mushroom-topped filet. 750ml bottle.
