The wine is built around Cabernet Sauvignon from the family's estate vineyard in Coombsville, the cool, volcanic-soil appellation southeast of the city of Napa, supplemented by fruit from Rutherford, Oakville and other Napa districts, and the 2023 release is a single-varietal bottling. It spends roughly 20 months in French oak, about a quarter of it new, which keeps the focus on fruit and site rather than barrel. James Suckling awarded the 2023 96 points and Jeb Dunnuck 91, praising red and dark fruit layered with crushed stone, dried herbs, tobacco and chocolate, a savory whisper of cured meat on the nose, and a succulent, mineral-driven finish of real length. Expect a full-bodied, polished Napa Cabernet with fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins at 14.5% ABV, ready now with a short decant or capable of a decade in the cellar.
