Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain, had spent his first years on the property tearing out old Mission grapevines and replanting with Cabernet Sauvignon, a bet that paid off when Inglenook won a Gold Medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition. Francis Ford Coppola bought part of the historic property in 1975 and eventually restored the Inglenook name itself in 2011, after decades of building the estate's flagship Rubicon (which scored 97 points from both Antonio Galloni and James Suckling for its 2013 vintage). This Niebaum Estate bottling — formerly sold as \"Cask\" Cabernet Sauvignon — functions as Rubicon's second wine, built from a similar Bordeaux-style blend of estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot, aged in French oak.
