Patz and Hall worked alongside him when Chenoweth Ranch was planted and first bottled it as a single-vineyard wine in 2004. The vineyard is planted to a mix of Dijon clones in the Russian River Valley, where cool morning fog and warm afternoons build flavor while preserving acidity. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, this is a lively, assertive Pinot Noir with a grippy edge. The producer's notes point to cinnamon, clove and dried cherry, while the flavors combine morello cherry and blackberry paste with a snap of licorice and a lightly firm spine of roasted apple wood. Tannins are deep and supple, the texture is rich, and juicy energy carries the finish. Production is very small, so bottles of this wine are not easy to find. It drinks well in the next several years and will reward careful cellaring. Pair it with grilled lamb, roast duck, braised pork or earthy mushroom dishes. 750ml bottle.
