Today it is owned by the Terlato family and draws on two estate properties, the Sanford and Benedict Vineyard and La Rinconada Ranch, in the cool, ocean-influenced Santa Rita Hills. Fruit is handpicked and sorted, then fermented with native yeasts, with about a third of the fruit fermented as whole clusters. The wine ages around 10 months in French oak. Bottled at 13.5% alcohol, it shows raspberry and cherry with cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose. The palate brings black cherry, kirsch and pomegranate with an earthy streak, and a finish marked by black tea, warm slate and iris. Acidity is bright and the tannins are supple, giving the wine tension and length. It is a classic Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir with the structure to keep for several years.
