Senior winemaker Stephanie Pope blends 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 11% Petite Sirah, 2.5% Malbec, and 1.5% Petit Verdot, then ages the wine 18 months in 30% new American oak barrels. At 14.0% alcohol, it opens with aromas of vanilla, strawberry, and cedar laced with cinnamon and nutmeg from the barrel, followed by a soft entry and a juicy, fruit-forward palate of berry, cocoa, and subtle cedar. Dusty tannins give way to a velvety, lingering finish, which is why Hess calls it one of its most popular Napa offerings.
