Types of Rum
There are several types of rum. Most rum is made from molasses which is a by-product of the sugar refining process which is then fermented into alcohol. There are several varieties of rum such as White or Silver Rum, Gold Rum, Dark Rum, and Black Rum.
White or Silver Rum
White or Silver rum is clear. It mixes well with light and fruity cocktails.
A popular White Rum Drink is the Daiquiri which has 2 ounces of white rum, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice, and 0.5 ounces of syrup which is shaken and served over ice.
Gold Rum
Gold rums are aged longer than white or silver rum. It is bolder with amber hues and steeper flavor.

Dark Rum
Dark rums are smooth, medium-bodied and is long-aged.
A popular Dark Rum Drink is the Dark “n” Stormy which has 2 ounces of dark rum, 4 ounces of ginger beer combined over ice and garnished with a lime wedge.
Black Rum
Black rums are silky like a fine cognac. It is bold and is intended to be sipped slowly.

Agricole si made from cane sugar as opposed to molasses.
Naval Strength
Naval strength has 50% or higher alcohol content.
Overproof
Overproof has 60% or higher alcohol content.
Spiced Rum
Spiced rum is rum with additional ingredients added to it to change it’s flavor profile. Spices added are pepper, bay leaves, cinnamon, and anise.
