Indri is named for the town in Haryana, northern India, where Piccadily Distilleries built a malt-dedicated distillery in 2012 near the Yamuna River in the Himalayan foothills — and in Sanskrit, Indriya also means the five senses. Piccadily had made molasses-based spirits for two decades before this, and it remains India's largest independent malt producer, family-led and not owned by a global drinks conglomerate. The team is formidable: Master Blender Surrinder Kumar, who spent much of his career building Amrut's single malt program, alongside Master Distiller Graeme Bowie, a 38-year Scotch veteran. The whisky is made from indigenous six-row barley grown in Rajasthan — lower yield, higher protein, notably fruity and floral — double distilled in six Indian-made copper pot stills, then matured in the extreme heat of the northern plains, where the angels take a heavy share and leave concentrated tropical flavor. Everything is non-chill filtered with no color added. Indri launched internationally in 2021 and immediately started winning: Trini, the Three Wood matured in first-fill bourbon, French wine, and PX sherry casks, was named Best Indian Single Malt at the 2022 World Whiskies Awards; the Diwali Collector's Edition took Best in Show Double Gold at the 2023 Whiskies of the World; and Drú, the cask-strength expression, has been named Whisky of the Year and World's Best Whisky at competitions in 2024 and 2025.
