99,000 Horas is Corralejo's añejo aged 99,000 hours — eighteen months — in oak, and the bottle a Guanajuato-based writer who finds the standard line harsh calls his favorite. Hacienda Corralejo, in Pénjamo, Guanajuato, is the birthplace of Miguel Hidalgo, the Father of Mexico, and one of the first estates in Mexico to sell tequila commercially, in 1775; it's one of the few distilleries outside Jalisco allowed to make tequila, revived by Leonardo Rodríguez Moreno in 1996 at NOM 1368. 99,000 Horas is 100% hand-picked blue Weber agave cooked in clay ovens, double-distilled in copper pot stills by the 400-year-old Charentais method borrowed from Cognac, aged eighteen months — the 99,000 hours on the label — in a mix of American and French oak, and bottled on the estate at 40% ABV in a black-labeled bottle the hacienda blows itself.
