In 1942 a young Julio González took a loan to open La Primavera in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos highlands, and built Mexico's original luxury tequila; Diageo owns it today, still made at NOM 1449, and the house has released a Lunar New Year 1942 for several years running. Inside is 1942: 100% mature highland blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in brick ovens, double-distilled, aged a minimum of two and a half years in ex-bourbon American white oak, and bottled at 40% ABV in the penca bottle with the Year of the Horse artwork; check your bottle for the edition's details. 12x75: butterscotch and caramel on the nose with vanilla, roasted agave, cinnamon, and light oak, then a smooth, noticeably sweet palate of caramelized agave, toffee, dark chocolate, toasted oak, and cinnamon. Honest note: the liquid is the regular 1942 — you're paying for the limited bottle, which is exactly the point for the Lunar New Year gift, the collector completing the zodiac set, or the shelf.
