Reserva de la Familia is the Cuervo family's private line, made apart from the rest of the house at La Rojeña, NOM 1122 — the oldest working distillery in the Americas — in copper pot stills rather than columns, from eight-to-ten-year organic agave grown in the estate's richest volcanic soil, using only the inner heart, roasted seventy-two hours in masonry ovens; the Private Cask Collection lets a handful of retailers pick their own barrels from the family's aging cellar with master distiller Alex Coronado. Blend 1 is an añejo from the casks our team chose — aged in the line's charred American and French oak — bottled at 40% ABV, hand-labeled and wax-sealed with the family crest, in a limited run for two San Diego stores.
