Balcones Rum Cask Finish Texas Single Malt Whisky
Balcones Rum Cask Finish Texas Single Malt Whisky is what happens when Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas marries its two passions. Single malt has always been the drive behind Balcones, but the distillery also makes a Texas rum, and after a few small batches of that rum it refilled the emptied casks with select Texas Single Malt to create this whisky. It is bottled at cask strength.
Balcones describes a bold single malt with notes of rock candy, spice cake and toasted oak, with the rum cask layering molasses sweetness and tropical richness over the nutty, savory, intense character of Balcones' Golden Promise barley malt. The Texas climate pushes whisky in and out of the wood aggressively, so even a short finish makes a big impression here. It is a limited release, and one of the more unusual bottles in the Balcones range, a natural for drinkers who enjoy rum-finished Scotch or want to taste Texas single malt with a sweeter edge. Serve neat with a few drops of water.
