Avua Balsamo Cachaca
Avuá Bálsamo is the most cerebral and contemplative expression in the Native Wood Aged Collection — a cachaça that rewards patient sippers and makes no concessions to accessibility. Part of Avuá's groundbreaking series of native Brazilian wood-aged cachaças released in 2018, the Bálsamo takes the same single-estate sugarcane from Fazenda da Quinta — hand-cut, water-wheel pressed within four hours of harvest, wild yeast fermented, and pot still distilled — and ages it for up to two years in large vertical casks made from Bálsamo wood, also known as Cabreúva or Pau-Bálsamo, a high-density burgundy-colored hardwood native to Central and South America found from southern Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul. Where Amburana brings warm cinnamon sweetness, Bálsamo goes in a completely different direction — herbaceous, mineral, dry, and gently bitter in a way that makes it genuinely unique among aged cachaças. Distiller reviewers describe it as a light amber-colored spirit with a heady nose of wild agricole-like funk, while the nose delivers herbaceous aromas with a flavor hinting at minerality, citrus, and bitterness from the distinctive South American wood. The palate is notably dry compared to the Amburana — corn, smoke, grassiness, and honey mildness with a mild peppery finish and lingering wood notes. One reviewer called it an interesting and cerebral sipper and specifically warned against making a Caipirinha with it — the subtleties disappear. Sip it neat or on the rocks and let the Bálsamo wood reveal itself. Buy Avuá Bálsamo Cachaça online with fast shipping right to your door.
