Select Barrel Reserve Silver is Milagro's craft tier — the highland agave crushed by a tahona stone and distilled in small copper pots rather than the column, in the bottle with the hand-blown glass agave inside. Danny Schneeweiss and Moy Guindi, two Mexico City friends, founded Milagro — miracle — in 1997 to make a modern tequila from the Los Altos highlands; William Grant & Sons owns it now, and it's made at Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados, NOM 1559, in Arandas, one of the most respected family distilleries in the highlands. The Select Barrel Reserve Silver is 100% estate-grown highland blue Weber agave, slow-roasted in brick ovens, crushed by a two-ton volcanic tahona, fermented, triple-distilled in small-batch copper pot stills, rested briefly in oak, and bottled at 40% ABV in the tall bottle with a hand-blown glass agave piña rising inside it. The tahona and copper pots give it what the standard Silver lacks: expect a denser, oilier nose of cooked agave, citrus, and highland florals with a mineral edge, opening into a fuller, more textured palate of agave, pepper, and a faint oak softness with a longer, cleaner finish. Honest note: the Milagro for the enthusiast — real tahona character in a bottle that's a conversation piece, at a price well under the craft brands. Neat, in a copita, or the Margarita that shows off. The miracle, stone-crushed.
