Tres Generaciones is Sauza's tribute to three generations of the family that founded the brand in 1873 — Don Cenobio, Don Eladio, and Don Francisco Javier — a 100% agave, triple-distilled line from the town of Tequila. Don Cenobio Sauza was the first to export tequila to the US; the family sold the brand, which Suntory owns today and makes at La Perseverancia, NOM 1102, in the town of Tequila — while Cenobio's great-great-great-grandson Guillermo makes Fortaleza a few blocks away at the family's original distillery. The Plata is 100% blue Weber agave from the Tequila valley, cooked, triple-distilled for smoothness, and bottled unaged at 40% ABV in the tall bottle with the three portraits. Expect a clean nose of cooked agave, citrus, and a faint herbal greenness, opening into a smooth, light, gently sweet palate of agave, lime, and white pepper with a soft, short finish. Honest note: a big-house valley blanco built for smoothness — triple distillation strips the edges and some of the character, which is the point for the drinker who wants a clean, no-burn Margarita from a name that goes back to the beginning of tequila.
