The Centenario 12 is the middle of Flor de Caña's core range and, for a lot of drinkers, its true sweet spot — enough age to sip seriously, priced within reach of an everyday bottle. It matures in ex-bourbon oak at the base of the active San Cristóbal volcano in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua, where the volcanic microclimate's heat accelerates the interaction between spirit and wood. Like the whole range from the fifth-generation family distillery founded in 1890, it's naturally aged with no added sugar, accelerants, or artificial ingredients, distilled using 100% renewable energy, and certified Carbon Neutral and Fair Trade. Bottled at 40% ABV. Expect a warm amber pour with caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, and dried fruit on the nose, opening into a smooth, dry, medium-bodied palate of butterscotch, cocoa, roasted nuts, and light baking spice, finishing clean with lingering oak. The Flor de Caña dryness is front and center, which is exactly why it holds up so well next to sweeter competitors and why several reviewers comparing it to the Eco 15 found the gap smaller than the price suggests.
