Sardinian Citrus was the first botanical offshoot of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, and it was born the way most of PJ Rigney's ideas are: on a trip. The founder of the Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim — the first new distillery in Connacht in over a century, and home to Ireland's best-selling gin — came back from Sardinia obsessed with the island's citrus, and built a gin around it. The base is the full Gunpowder recipe: juniper, angelica, orris, caraway, cardamom, coriander, star anise, and local meadowsweet steeped and distilled in medieval-style copper pot stills, with the signature slowly dried Chinese gunpowder green tea vapor-infused through baskets. To that, Sardinian lemon and orange join the oriental citrus in the vapor baskets, turning a citrus-forward gin into a citrus-led one. Bottled at 41% ABV.
