Simon Ford, one of the most influential brand ambassadors in the industry, wanted a gin designed for cocktails rather than for its own showcase, and found his partner in Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers in London — a master distiller from a family that has made gin since the late 1600s. Maxwell distilled samples; Ford took them to his bartender friends; feedback went back; repeat. Launched in 2012, the result is nine botanicals in precise proportion — nearly half Italian juniper, a heavy dose of Romanian coriander, then Spanish lemon, bitter orange, Turkish grapefruit, Chinese jasmine, Polish angelica, orris, and Indonesian cassia — steeped 15 hours in English wheat spirit and distilled five hours in John Dore pot stills, bottled at 45% ABV so it still tastes like gin after shaking or stirring dilutes it.
