Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Whisky is one of the signature single malts from Kavalan Distillery in Yilan County, Taiwan, the distillery founded by the King Car Group in 2005 that brought Taiwan to the front rank of world whisky. Kavalan takes its name from the indigenous people who once inhabited the Yilan plain. Concertmaster is matured in American oak and then finished in ruby, tawny and vintage Port casks, and bottled at 40% ABV.
The Port finish shows in a nose of ripe red fruit, plum and a hint of chocolate over Kavalan's signature tropical mango and vanilla. The palate is smooth and rich with dried fruit, honey, gentle spice and creamy oak, and the finish is long and sweetly fruity. Taiwan's subtropical climate matures whisky fast, giving it depth well beyond its years. It is a superb after-dinner sipper, neat.
