Nc'nean is the only fully organic whisky distillery in Scotland, founded in 2017 by Annabel Thomas on the remote Morvern peninsula in the West Highlands and named for Neachneohain, the Gaelic queen of spirits. Powered by 100% renewable energy, net-zero from operations and bottled in 100% recycled glass, a first for the Scotch industry, it makes a bright, modern single malt from organic Scottish barley using long fermentations and unusual yeasts.
Matured mainly in ex-American whiskey casks and STR red wine casks with a touch of Oloroso sherry, and bottled at 92 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it offers vanilla custard, hazelnut, shortbread, baked peach, cherry and lemon peel on the nose, then earthy malt, pear tart, dark honey, berry jam and black pepper, finishing with milk chocolate, toffee, candied orange and baking spice.
