Black Maple Hill 11 Year Bourbon Whiskey
Black Maple Hill is back in Kentucky. First introduced in 2000 by Paul Joseph of California's CVI Brands, the label was never a distillery — but its early releases, produced by Julian Van Winkle III and widely believed to include wheated bourbon from the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery, made it one of the most coveted sourced-bourbon names of the modern era, with later Kentucky Bourbon Distillers bottlings reaching up to 22 years old. When aged Kentucky stock ran dry, production moved to Oregon in 2014, and the cult faded. In July 2026, Rare Character Whiskey Co. of Lexington — the team behind Pride of Anderson County, Brook Hill, and Old Cassidy — announced it had brought the label home, restoring the original 95-proof presentation and age-stated tradition. This 11 Year Small Batch is the flagship of that revival: Kentucky straight bourbon aged a full 11 years in new charred American oak, bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV) in a 700ml format, in a strictly limited 2026 batch. Expect dark caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak, dried cherry, and leather on the nose, moving into toffee, maple, cinnamon, cocoa, and orange zest, with a long, mature finish. Independent reviews are still arriving on this very new release, but early tasters describe a delicate, sweet entry with baked apple and buttered popcorn. A serious bottle for collectors who remember the original and drinkers who missed it.
