Blue Run Glimmer Gin Barrel Finished Bourbon Whiskey

Glimmer is bourbon finished in gin barrels — and Robb Report called it by far the most interesting whiskey Blue Run has made. Blue Run was founded in 2020 by a Nike designer, Facebook's first director-level employee, and a hospitality executive, with Bourbon Hall of Famer Jim Rutledge as liquid advisor, and built its name "sneakerizing" bourbon with limited drops. Shaylyn Gammon, the brand's head of whiskey development, created Glimmer by taking a Kentucky straight bourbon and finishing it in barrels that had held Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin — the Vermont barrel-aged gin made from juniper and raw honey — casks that were toasted and charred and held the gin for seven to twelve months before the bourbon went in. Gin-barrel finishing is almost unheard of in bourbon, and it's what makes this bottle singular. Expect a nose of caramel and vanilla with an unmistakable botanical lift — juniper, a faint honeyed sweetness, a whisper of citrus and herb — opening into a palate where the bourbon's toffee and oak meet the gin cask's piney, floral, gently sweet influence, finishing long with juniper spice lingering over the whiskey. Robb Report noted Blue Run's core lineup is decent but hadn't always stood out; Glimmer changed that. Honest note: this is a genuinely unusual finish, and drinkers who don't like gin should know what they're getting.
