Foursquare is the distillery Fred Minnick dubbed the Pappy of rum: the Seale family's operation in St. Philip, Barbados, where Richard Seale has led the fight for unadulterated rum — no sugar, no color, no additives, no filtration — and every drop is distilled, aged, blended, and bottled on the island. Redoutable is a Single Blended Rum, pot and Coffey column distillate, tropically aged fourteen years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Madeira casks, and bottled at 61% ABV in 2020 in limited quantities. Madeira is Foursquare's signature second cask — the fortified wine of the Portuguese island brings dried fruit, nuts, and a savory, saline oxidation that Sagacity and Convocation share — and here it meets fourteen years of tropical oak: expect a nose of raisin, dried apricot, walnut, toffee, and the house's vanilla and coconut, opening into a rich, dense palate where the Madeira's caramelized fruit and nutty tang play against toasted oak, baking spice, and the signature buttery texture, the proof carrying it all, finishing very long and warm.
