Dobel 50 1969 is the first tequila ever finished in Sauternes barrels — seven-plus years in American and French oak, then the Bordeaux dessert-wine casks, from twelve-year-old single-estate agave, in a collector's edition that won't be repeated. The Dobel 50 Anniversary Series began in 2022 with 1967, a sherry-finished extra añejo for founder Juan Domingo Beckmann's fiftieth birthday, and continues each year with a vintage marking the events of fifty years prior; Beckmann is the eleventh-generation head of the Cuervo family, and the series is made at La Rojeña, NOM 1122, from agave grown twelve years on a single family estate in the volcanic lowlands of Tequila. 1969 is aged a minimum of seven years in American and French white oak and finished in Sauternes casks, bottled at 40% ABV in luxurious presentation; only a few hundred bottles reach the US. Maxim: a very well-structured, complex body with a pleasant warmth and a very long aftertaste. Robb Report notes each of the trio marks a first for the brand. Sauternes gives honeyed apricot and botrytis richness: expect a deep amber pour with a nose of apricot, honey, vanilla, and toasted oak, opening into a silky, layered palate of dried apricot, caramel, marmalade, and French-oak spice with a long, sweet-tannic finish.
