Mandala's Día de Muertos Extra Añejo is the house's seven-year French-oak tequila in a limited Day of the Dead ceramic — the collector's release from the brand famous for its beaded Huichol bottles. Arturo Lomelí Ibarra founded Mandala in 2016 with Humberto Ibarra and José Joel García Barreto in the Los Altos highlands, with a mission to make a tequila worth savoring and a bottle worth keeping; the house releases a Día de Muertos edition most years, painted by local artisans, and Old Town Tequila describes the series as telling a story of love, tradition, and legacy. Inside is the Extra Añejo: 100% mature highland blue Weber agave, cooked in traditional brick ovens, double-distilled, aged seven years in French oak, and bottled at 40% ABV in the limited Día de Muertos ceramic; check your bottle for the year and design. Expect a deep amber pour with a nose of dried fig, caramel, vanilla, and cedar, opening into a dense, silky, sweet palate of butterscotch, dark chocolate, baking spice, and French-oak tannin with a very long finish.
