The brand's signature move — finishing every rum in local Still Austin ex-bourbon barrels — actually started as an improvised fix, after a shipment of European barrels arrived damaged and McBrayer had to move the rum into Texas whiskey barrels before bottling. Cigar Blend No. 1 marries two of his finest single casks: FS 2014 from Foursquare, the Barbados distillery run by fourth-generation rum historian Richard Seale, and MPM 2012 from the legendary wooden Port Mourant still at Guyana's Diamond Distillery. The blend rested an additional 8 months in a single Still Austin ex-bourbon barrel, then was bottled at a minimum 12 years old, at Royal Navy issuing strength (54.5% ABV / 109 proof), with no chill filtration and no additives. Expect a decadent, unhurried pour: dark cherry, dried fig, tobacco leaf, cinnamon bark, marshmallow, chocolate milk, and caramelized molasses — genuinely built as a cigar companion, not a mixer.
