Mandamus is Mark XXIX of the Exceptional Cask Selection — the 2025 release, and a return to the tawny port casks that made Détente and Premise cult bottles. Whisky Advocate explains the series: Foursquare's best and most unusual barrels are set aside for ECS, released only when fourth-generation master distiller Richard Seale finds a batch worthy of the name, with no fixed schedule. Foursquare is the distillery Fred Minnick dubbed the Pappy of rum: the Seale family's operation in St. Philip, Barbados, where Seale has led the fight for unadulterated rum — no sugar, no color, no additives, no filtration — and every drop is distilled, aged, blended, and bottled on the island.
