Amrut Two Indies Rum
Two Indies is exactly what the name says: a blend of the East Indies and the West. Amrut, the Bangalore distillery best known for its hyper-aged single malts, marries its own Indian rum — made from jaggery, the unrefined cane sugar that's a staple across South Asia, with higher mineral content than molasses — with aged Caribbean rums from Jamaica, Barbados, and Guyana, chosen to add fruity esters and body. The whole blend is aged in India's intense heat, where evaporation runs 10 to 12 percent a year, and bottled at 42.8% ABV. Expect a light straw pour with pear, guava, and a faint Danish-pastry sweetness on the nose, opening into a soft, lightly spiced palate with a whisper of Jamaican funk, spearmint, and cane, finishing short and clean. Honest reception: this one divides. Wine-Searcher's aggregate sits at 90, and Tastings.com has scored batches well; RumRatings tasters call it sweet, delicious, and jaw-tingling in a good way. The Lone Caner was far harsher, finding it underpowered and wishing Amrut had kept it a pure Indian expression. The fair read: at around $30 it's built for the back bar rather than the snifter — a genuinely interesting daiquiri or rum-and-pineapple base with a flavor lineage nobody else can claim. A curiosity worth having for Amrut fans and rum explorers alike.
