Arbikie Haar Wheat Vodka

Haar is the Scots word for the cold sea fog that rolls in off the North Sea and blankets the Arbikie estate, a couple of miles from the Angus coast — and it's the name of the Stirling family's wheat vodka, released in October 2017 as the second vodka from Scotland's first single-site, field-to-bottle distillery. The wheat is Zulu, a winter variety that thrives in eastern Scotland and distills beautifully, grown on the family's Black Laws field, mashed, fermented, distilled, and bottled on the estate at 43% ABV. It's also the base for AK's Gin. Travel Distilled, who makes the case that potato and wheat vodkas taste genuinely different, found the proof here: a nose that smelled warm, like walking past a wheat field on a sunny day, with vanilla creaminess, apple, and caramel and no roughness at all, then a palate of vanilla, cream, wheat, apple, and caramel with peppery spice arriving and the 43% showing its strength.
