Arhumatic Vinea Auri Rhum

Vinea Auri — "golden vine" — is Arhumatic's rum and raisin, and PUNCH singled it out as surprisingly complex. It's a rhum arrangé, the centuries-old French Caribbean tradition of macerating rum with fruit and spices, but the base here isn't the usual Guadeloupe agricole alone: it's a blend of three rums — two Jamaican, one aged twelve months in cask and one unaged, plus a Guadeloupe rhum aged under wood — steeped with three varieties of dried grapes: Corinth currants and blond sultanas from Chile and South Africa. Founders Clémence and Thierry Ogez spent 15 years running a high-end fruit shop in Lille before launching the brand in 2014, and they treat arrangé as craft: every ingredient hand-selected, visible in the bottle. Expect a nose of sun-dried raisin, sultana, and honey with the unmistakable funk of Jamaican pot still rum underneath — overripe banana, a hint of hogo — opening into a rich, rounded palate of dried fruit, caramel, and gentle spice where the currants bring depth and the Jamaican rum brings life, finishing warm and long. It's the arrangé for whiskey and dark rum drinkers: less bright-fruit tropical, more autumnal and contemplative. Serve it neat and cool, over one cube, or alongside dark chocolate.
