Bank Note Peated Reserve adds a small proportion of Islay peated malt to the Bank Note blend of Lowland grain, sweet Speyside and robust Highland malts, all aged a minimum of five years in American oak. Made for independent bottler A.D. Rattray, it brings a touch of smoke to a value blend without upsetting the balance.
Bottled at 86 proof, it pours soft amber with copper highlights. Gentle smoke lingers over burnt toffee, vanilla, plum jam and ginger on the nose, then smoke on the tongue fades into fresh apple peel, dark chocolate and peppery spice, finishing with mixed nuts, a pinch of cayenne and wisps of smoke in the background. It is a great budget alternative to Johnnie Walker Black for anyone who likes a little peat in their highball or Penicillin cocktail.
