The Discovery Series is the distillery's pure blending showcase: rare, well-aged sourced barrels composed by Dan Callaway's team, with every component's age and mash bill printed on the label in a transparency almost no one else in Kentucky practices. This edition simplifies to three: 73% a 13-year Kentucky bourbon (75% corn, 13% rye, 12% malted barley), 21% a 10-year Kentucky bourbon (78/13/9), and 6% Bardstown's own 6-year estate-distilled wheated bourbon (68% corn, 20% wheat, 12% malted barley), aged its entire life in French oak rather than American. Bottled at 118.1 proof, roughly 3,000 cases. Breaking Bourbon: the 13-year does the heavy lifting, but the 10-year and French-oak wheater are injected to successful results — rich, layered, well balanced, and a better, more available bourbon than many limited releases. The Whiskey Wash found orange blossom, graham cracker, brown sugar, and vanilla on the nose, then cinnamon, oak, cloves, black pepper, and cherry, drinking a bit hot with a spicy warmth trailing off. Mostly Bourbon: a delicious, classic, mature Kentucky profile that touches every favorite flavor, worth the price. Bourbon Bossman: the closest to near-perfect since Discovery #4. Bourbon Culture debates whether that 75/13/12 stock is Wild Turkey or Jim Beam — the label leaves you to guess the distillery, but nothing else. Neat, with a splash of water.
