Bespoken Spirits Rye Whiskey comes from a Silicon Valley-born company founded in 2018 with backing from Derek Jeter and semiconductor executive T.J. Rodgers, and it is made with a proprietary ACTivation process that extracts the flavor of oak in days rather than years. The rye is sourced from Indiana and bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof).
The Whiskey Reviewer rated it a B, finding caramel candy apple and dried tobacco on the nose, caramel apple with cinnamon warmth and light cherry on the palate, and a mildly sweet, peppery finish, and called it straightforward and flavorful without the flaws of most accelerated-aging whiskeys. Bespoken describes blackstrap molasses, toasted clove, caramelized plantain and charred orange peel, then banana bread, stewed raspberry, grapefruit rind and oiled leather. An interesting experiment that also happens to make a fine Old Fashioned.
