When they were rediscovered, the rum had aged past what the Original blend called for, so the distillery released it on its own to worldwide acclaim, and The Forgotten Casks became a permanent limited release: St. Lucia Distillers now deliberately holds back select Chairman's Reserve for extra aging in its memory. It's the Original recipe — rum from the island's only distillery, drawn from the Coffey column and the John Dore and Vendome pot stills — matured an additional three years in ex-bourbon barrels after blending, for a soft, elegant marriage of rums roughly six to eleven years old, bottled at 40% ABV. The distillery's notes: a rich, dark gold-mahogany color with an intense nose of sweet raisins, cigar tobacco, amber honey, and vanilla, then a warm palate of grilled tropical fruit and candied walnuts rounded with soft spices through a long finish. Drinkhacker reviewed it as the oldest and rarest expression alongside the Original; Paste positions it as the extra-aged version of the flagship, with the honest note that they personally preferred Legacy's wilder pot-still character for neat drinking.
