Código 1530 Rare Hare Double Barrel Añejo Tequila

Rare Hare is the spirits line from Playboy, and this Double Barrel Añejo was its collaboration with Código 1530, the Amatitán, Jalisco tequila now part of Pernod Ricard. Código is known for two things: it adds no chemicals, flavorings or sweeteners, and it ages its tequilas in French oak barrels that previously held Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, rather than the American whiskey barrels most of the industry uses. For Rare Hare, Código took that approach a step further. The añejo was aged in French oak Napa Cabernet barrels and then finished in Spanish sherry fino casks, a double-barrel process. Only 1,530 bottles were made, a nod to Código's name, each individually numbered. The tequila comes in a crystal glass bottle handcrafted in Mexico, presented in a sustainably sourced, locally made wooden box with laser-etched details and a clear sliding front door. It was released on November 30, 2021. The official notes describe spicy pepper, dried fruit and clover honey on the nose, ripe cherries, fresh fig, subtle pepper and vanilla bean on the palate, and a long, mellow finish with hints of vanilla and caramel.
