The recipe — a secret blend of around 60 to 68 herbs, roots, aromatic plants, and fruit peels, including gentian, quinine bark, and bitter orange — has reportedly remained unchanged since. One genuinely fascinating historical detail: Campari's signature ruby-red color came from real carmine dye, made from crushed cochineal insects, right up until 2006, when the company finally switched to artificial coloring while keeping everything else the same.
