Don Abraham Organic Extra Anejo Tequila
Don Abraham Extra Añejo is the Montes family's organic single-estate tequila aged thirty-six months in ex-bourbon oak — three years on agave from the hand-weeded fields of Amatitán. Abraham Montes began farming blue Weber agave in Amatitán in the 1920s; his sons and grandsons grew for other producers until Álvaro Montes built Tequila Las Américas, NOM 1480, a certified-organic distillery in the Tequila Valley, and put the family name on its own bottle — 500,000 agaves farmed without herbicides, the weeds pulled by hand and composted. The Extra Añejo is 100% USDA-organic blue Weber agave from the Montes estate, slow-cooked in stone ovens, roller-milled, fermented in open-air stainless, double-distilled in stainless pots with copper coils, aged thirty-six months in ex-bourbon American white oak, and bottled at 40% ABV, additive-free. Mission Liquor calls the house among the cleanest, fullest, most expressive tequilas you can buy; Agave Spirits Journey notes the extra añejo's 36-month term. Three years of bourbon wood on organic valley agave: expect a nose of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, dried fruit, and cooked agave, opening into a rounded, sweet-savory palate of butterscotch, baking spice, cocoa, and soft oak tannin with a long, warm finish and the estate's pepper still audible. Honest note: an honest, additive-free extra añejo at a fraction of the decanter brands — for the drinker who wants three years of oak and still wants to taste agave. Neat, in a snifter, after dinner. The estate, three years.
