Ultima Reserva is made from the last agave Don Julio González ever planted — the 2006 field, harvested after his death, aged thirty-six months in a solera, in a numbered decanter. In 1942 a young Julio González took a loan to open La Primavera in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos highlands, and built Mexico's original luxury tequila; he died in 2012, Diageo owns the brand today, still made at NOM 1449, and Ultima Reserva launched in 2021 as the final tribute. It's an extra añejo: 100% blue Weber agave from the last plantation Don Julio and his family planted in 2006, slow-cooked in brick ovens, double-distilled, aged thirty-six months, matured through a solera system that blends tequilas of distinct character, each finished in exceptional casks, and bottled at 40% ABV in a hand-finished, individually numbered decanter. 12x75 places it with Real in the display-it, gift-it, sip-it-twice-a-year tier at $350-plus.
