El Dorado 15 is the sipper of the range — the bottle Ruminations kept returning to and, after a year away, found delicious enough to buy again despite the price. Demerara Distillers Limited makes it at the last distillery in Guyana, at Plantation Diamond on the Demerara River, where the country's heritage stills were consolidated: the 15 is a blend of rums from the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still — the oldest working still in the world — and the Versailles single wooden pot still, some components as old as 25 years, tropically aged a minimum of fifteen years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 43% ABV. In 2020 DDL reformulated the range with the added sugar removed — Rum Ratings' reviewer measured the new 15 at zero grams per liter, to the near-universal delight of enthusiasts, and got smacked in the nose by raisin, brown sugar, pipe tobacco, candied fig, prune, and a faint model-glue ester. Ruminations: dark brown sugar, cream, vanilla, raisin, tobacco, oak, burnt coffee, and a long molasses finish, complex enough never to read as merely sweet. Rum Revelations' old-versus-new tasting found toffee, coconut, walnut, and a nose like an old barn full of straw and wood. Honest note: Inu A Kena found it a transitional step between the bright 12 and the dry, complex 21 — many others call it the sweet spot.
