Founder Paul Hletko named the distillery after Frances Elizabeth Willard, the prohibitionist leader, and FEW has become one of the most respected grain-to-glass craft distilleries in America.
The bourbon is made from a high-rye mash bill with a portion of malted barley, distilled and aged entirely in Evanston. Cinnamon and clove on the nose are backed by corn sweetness and oak; the body is rich, with sweetness and spice paired nicely. It is a different take on bourbon, with aggressive spice and a hint of drying astringency that makes it a standout in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned and a lively neat pour.
