Foursquare Indelible Rum

Indelible is the Zinfandel-finished Foursquare — Mark XVIII of the Exceptional Cask Selection, and a return to the California wine casks that made the early Zinfandel Cask Blend a cult bottle. Foursquare is the distillery Fred Minnick dubbed the Pappy of rum: the Seale family's operation in St. Philip, Barbados, where Richard Seale has led the fight for unadulterated rum — no sugar, no color, no additives, no filtration — and every drop is distilled, aged, blended, and bottled on the island. Indelible is a Single Blended Rum, pot and Coffey column distillate, tropically aged eleven years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Zinfandel casks, and bottled at 48% ABV in 2021 in limited quantities — one of the gentler proofs in the series, alongside Sagacity, which makes it the most approachable ECS on the shelf. Zinfandel brings red fruit rather than the dried-fruit oxidation of Madeira or sherry: expect a nose of raspberry, cherry, plum, and vanilla over the house's coconut and toasted oak, opening into a rounded, fruit-forward palate where berry and warm spice meet caramel and the signature buttery texture, finishing long and gently dry. Honest note: ECS releases sell out and climb on the secondary market, and at 48% this is the one to hand a drinker who finds the 60% marks too much.
