Germana Brazil Cachaca
Brasil is Germana's five-year statement — the expression where the Caetano family's cachaça starts drinking like a serious aged spirit rather than a cocktail base. It comes from the same century-old process as everything the family makes on Fazenda Vista Alegre in Minas Gerais, the interior state that produces 60% of Brazil's artisanal cachaça and treats the craft as something noble: sugarcane grown on 300 hectares without chemical additives, hand-cut with machetes at peak ripeness, fermented the 500-year-old way with yellow corn meal and wild native yeasts over two to three weeks, then distilled in copper pot stills over open flame, keeping only the heart. Where the Palha bottling splits its time between French oak and Brazilian bálsamo, Brasil spends a full five years in French oak — the longest pure-oak aging in the core range — which rounds the grassy cane spirit into something deep amber, silky, and genuinely rich. Bottled at 40% ABV. Expect sweet, vegetal cane and ripe banana on the nose with vanilla and gentle woody spice, opening into a bold, rounded palate where tropical fruit and cane sweetness sit under earthy oak, caramel, and a hint of tobacco, finishing with a touch of peppery warmth. Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange both file it as a superb sipping spirit, and that's the right use — neat or over one cube, the way you'd treat an aged rhum agricole. Almost too good for a caipirinha, though it makes an outrageous one.
