Glen Moray Classic Peated is a rarity: a peated single malt from Speyside, a region that almost never uses smoke. The Elgin distillery, founded in 1897 on the River Lossie and owned by La Martiniquaise, made it to give its light, fruity house spirit a gentle campfire edge, matured in ex-bourbon American oak and bottled at 80 proof.
The nose shows layers of soft peat smoke with vanilla, tangy rhubarb and a hint of leather, then an instant wave of sweet smoke on the palate, lightly spiced and wrapped in creamy vanilla, with a long, sweet, gently spicy finish. It is far softer than any Islay malt, which makes it a perfect first step into peated whisky and a superb base for a smoky highball or a Penicillin cocktail. At this price, it is one of the best-value peated single malts anywhere.
