Glenglassaugh Torfa Peated Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Glenglassaugh Torfa is the peated expression from the coastal Highland distillery founded in 1875 at Portsoy on the Moray Firth, closed in 1986 and revived in 2008. Named for the Old Norse word for turf, Torfa is made from barley richly peated to around 20 ppm, matured in ex-bourbon casks, and bottled at 100 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, under owner Brown-Forman and master blender Dr. Rachel Barrie.
Barbecue smoke leads the nose, joined by cherry, citrus and a playful bubblegum sweetness, then a palate of sweet peat, sea salt, vanilla and ripe fruit, finishing long and smoky with a coastal tang. Drinkhacker graded it a B+ and called it the most fun of the Glenglassaugh range. A sweet, smoky, high-strength Highland malt that gives Islay fans something new to explore at a friendly price.
