High West High Country American Single Malt
High West High Country American Single Malt is the Park City, Utah distillery's first single malt made entirely from its own distillate, a milestone for a company that built its name on blending sourced rye. High Country is distilled and blended by High West in the Wasatch Mountains from a mash of 100% malted barley, using a base malt with a share of caramel and a touch of chocolate malt, aged a minimum of two years in a mix of freshly charred and second-use oak barrels, and bottled at 88 proof.
The specialty malts give it a nose of malted barley, fresh cereal and golden raisin with floral honey, and a palate of baking chocolate and malt with a peppery edge and a light, easy body. It is a gentle, approachable American single malt that shows the grain rather than heavy oak, and it works neat, over ice or in a highball. High Country was released in small annual batches and has become a collector's item for High West fans who want to own the distillery's own malt whiskey rather than its blends.
