High West Rendezvous Rye
High West Rendezvous Rye is the whiskey that launched High West Distillery in Park City, Utah, and the base for A Midwinter Night's Dram. Originally a blend of sourced ryes, Rendezvous has evolved into a seasonal, limited release built around more of High West's own pot-still rye: a blend of High West's 80% rye, 20% malted rye whiskey and MGP's 95% rye, 5% malted barley whiskey, each aged at least four years and up to seven, bottled at 92 proof.
Named for the annual mountain-man gatherings of the fur-trade era, Rendezvous is High West's argument that rye should be made with a high rye content and full, uncompromised flavor rather than the barely-legal 51% recipes most brands use. Barrel & Brew describes brown cinnamon sugar with citrus, apple and cherry on the nose, a round, full and rich palate, and a rye-spice finish with mint and pepper, calling it a good whiskey with real depth that appeals to bourbon drinkers as much as rye fans. Each year's release varies slightly, which makes it fun to collect.
