Jura 10 Year Old is the entry point to the whisky of the Isle of Jura, a wild Hebridean island of around two hundred people, one road, one pub and one distillery. Founded in 1810 and rebuilt in 1963 to keep the island community alive, Jura Distillery makes a gently smoky Island malt, and the 10 Year is matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels with a finishing period in aged Oloroso sherry casks.
Bottled at 86 proof, it offers soft peat smoke, honey and pear on the nose with a hint of sherried fruit, then a smooth palate of vanilla, toffee, orchard fruit, gentle spice and a faint coastal salinity, finishing with a whisper of smoke. Lighter than Islay but with more character than most Speysiders, it is an easy, approachable introduction to Island whisky and a fine everyday pour.
