Jura 12 Year Old comes from the Isle of Jura, a wild Hebridean island of around two hundred people, one road, one pub and one distillery, founded in 1810 and rebuilt in 1963 to keep the island community alive. It is matured for twelve years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, for a richer take on Jura's gently smoky Island style.
Bottled at 80 proof, it pours golden and offers dark chocolate, honey, walnut and soft citrus on the nose, then a palate of coffee, salted banana, licorice and brown sugar with a whisper of peat, finishing smooth and lightly sherried. A comfortable, dessert-friendly Island malt that makes a fine step up from the 10 Year and a good gift for a drinker who likes a little sherry and a little smoke.
